A cross-sectional view of an angiosperm black locust (Robinia pseudo-acacia) stem after the first year of growth.

The cambial zone of radially unexpanded cells between the secondary xylem and secondary phloem tissues is clearly shown. Note the continuity of cells comprising rays (arrow) which extend through the vascular cambium both to the xylem and the phloem.
